ILLUMINATI HOTTIES WILL I GET CANCELLED IF I WRITE A SONG CALLED, ‘IF YOU WERE A MAN YOU’D BE SO CANCELLED’

On the pure merit of this song title from L.A.’s Illuminati Hotties, we knew that we had to write about ‘will i get cancelled if i write a song called, ‘if you were a man you’d be so cancelled’’. The high-octane track which burns like a lit match for one minute, fourteen seconds, is from the band’s upcoming record FREE IH, which was written to purge the feelings of being trapped in a contract with a publicly collapsing record label. The songwriter and producer Sarah Tudzin poured out themes of anxiety, claustrophobia, aggression and loss into a vibrant mixtape, as demonstrated by the first pop-rocky punk track we’re hearing. Coming with the no-prisoners-taken song is a video directed by Tudzin and Josh Beavers, in which Tudzin embodies maniacal forms of American patriarchal cultures; office workers, front lawn BBQers, consumers. It’s pointedly mocking and we love it. - Hannah Thacker
